The
Sonics
`62
Probably the only Shadows
Tribute Band in the world to play for Sir Cliff Richard.
Garry MacDonald - lead guitar
Rod Kippen - rythym guitar
Bobby Blight - bass guitar
Robin Werda - drums
Annette Smith - Keyboards
The Sonics formed in 1961 and soon became the
band to follow in Brisbane's early years. Immediately it became
evident that they had captured the true essence of the Shadows
'sound' which quickly became their trademark.
They became know as Australia's own Shadows.
Disbanding in the late 80's to follow other musical career directions.
(Garry was musical director for Channel Nine in Brisbane QLD).
They reformed in 1996 mainly for nostalgia gigs, reunions and
private functions.
Approached by Matman Promotions in July 2000
they accepted an offer to participate in the inaugural 50's &
60's Rock 'n' Roll Legends Jambouree. Not as a 'Cliff' backing
band but as headline performers in their own right as the Shadows
tribute band.
The Jambouree sold out, as did every subsequent
show in which they appeared. Sought by the mighty Wintersun Festival
they played there in 2001.
