They're back!! Back from the 60's! The fabulous Sonics! Australia's premier tribute band to the Shadows with the Dynamic Rex McNamara as Cliff with support by the Silhouettes. Don't miss this superb tribute to Cliff and the Shadows - The early years. When Matman Promotions Tribute Shows hit the scene a few years ago the search began for a cast of musicians and artists that could fit the bill as a quality tribute show to Cliff and the Shadows. Matman knew of a band which had been heralded as Australia's premier tribute band to the Shadows back in the 60's and 70's called 'The Sonics'. They had all but retired from the music scene in the late 80's to follow other career directions. When The Sonics were located and the Shadows Tribute Show concept was outlined to front man Garry MacDonald, the cliff and the shadows tribute show was born. |

Rex McNamara A fitting 'Cliff' was found in the guise of the dynamic Rex McNamara. Even better was the fact that Rex is a huge fan of Cliff and The Shadows. A talented vocalist and performer Rex has been successfully entertaining audiences in and around Australia for a number of years. It's not everyone who can say his dream has come true, well for Rex that dream and lifelong ambition finally came in February 2003 when He, with the Sonics were asked to participate in entertaining the expected audience of thousands of 'Cliff'fans who would attend Toombul to see him. Rex finally met his Idol and received a 'Well done'and a thank you from the Man himself for "keeping my music alive".

`62 Probably the only Shadows Tribute Band in the world to play for Sir Cliff Richard.
The Sonics formed in 1961 and soon became the band to follow in Brisbane's early years. Immediately it became evident that they had captured the true essence of the Shadows 'sound' which quickly became their trademark. They became know as Australia's own Shadows. Disbanding in the late 80's to follow other musical career directions. (Garry was musical director for Channel Nine in Brisbane QLD). They reformed in 1996 mainly for nostalgia gigs, reunions and private functions. Approached by Matman Promotions in July 2000 they accepted an offer to participate in the inaugural 50's & 60's Rock 'n' Roll Legends Jambouree. Not as a 'Cliff' backing band but as headline performers in their own right as the Shadows tribute band. The Jambouree sold out, as did every subsequent show in which they appeared. Sought by the mighty Wintersun Festival they played there in 2001. |
